OUR STORY

Nisha, Esha and Shivani, along with their mother, are the creators of Raising Sun books. Born and raised in New Jersey, the three sisters grew up in a tight knit family where love and appreciation for education, culture and language were given the utmost importance. While they each pursued different careers, creativity and art is their true passion. 

After starting their own families, they realized there were limited resources for them as first generation Indian American, Gujarati speaking parents, to teach the future generation how to read, write and speak Gujarati. Their sons’ bookshelves are filled with so many stories that empower and uplift, teach important social-emotional skills while building their self worth & confidence, and even those about Indian culture and characters, but all in English. While trying to practice conscious and gentle parenting in their childrens’ first language, they realized their knowledge of their mother tongue was limited in concepts such as these.

Their mission and hope is to spread and preserve the love for their Gujarati language and culture by exposing children to it through engaging and inspiring tools, such as books!
